ABOUT
Our Story
Unless you have walked within these chapel walls, it is impossible to understand the history, the peace, and, indeed, the priceless treasure that you have stumbled upon. The Submarine Memorial Chapel was built in 1943-1944 with materials obtained from all around Oahu and by the hands of the men of the Pearl Harbor Submarine community and other willing volunteers. Her story is amazing...

OUR MISSION
Is to raise funds, apply for grants, and coordinate laborers, volunteers, and materials for the restoration, preservation, enhancement, and maintenance of the Submarine Memorial Chapel and attached Fellowship Hall, thereby lessening the burden of the government in maintaining this Category I historic resource located on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam,
to maintain the Chapel’s rich historic and Christian heritage in the spirit of the period and purpose for which the Chapel was built—evidenced in its dedication, architecture, stained-glass windows, and furnishings,
for outreach and education of the public regarding the historical significance of the Submarine Memorial Chapel, to assist the JBPHH Command Religious Program in sponsoring chapel related events such as the celebration of Submarine Memorial Chapel anniversaries, memorials, history days, worship or study activities and other associated events,
and to enhance the religious and cultural lives of the Submarine Memorial Chapel’s worship community, especially its servicemembers, retirees and their families stationed at and visiting JBPHH.

REPAIR
In short our mission is to preserve the Pearl Harbor Submarine Memorial Chapel. Currently closed and deteriorating, we hope to restore it and see her doors open to worshippers, historians and families of those submariners on Eternal Patrol.

"I’m not sure there is a building that better embodies the spirit of World War Two submariners than the one in which we are gathered. The foundation of this very structure is the stuff of urban legend. Not unlike the fabric of submarine heroes who have joined us today."
1999, RADM "Big Al" Konetzni
